Scientists have finally discovered how much sleep humans actually need: Just five more minutes.
Actually, getting enough quality sleep (between 7 to 9 hours per night) improves your brain function, strengthens your immune system, and lowers your risk of chronic health conditions.
But in the spiritual realm, a person who sleeps spiritually isn’t healthy at all; such posture is a detriment. In our relationship with God, the time for sleeping is over. It’s high time to be on guard, to stay alert and be clearheaded.
Yes, in the Bible, sleep is often used as an image for spiritual laziness and being awake as being alert to God and His priorities.
On Sunday we’re looking at another timely word for us that comes from Romans 13:11-14. Here in America, we desperately need spiritual awakening. It is happening in other parts of the world where “Jesus” is an offensive word.
Let’s ask God to awaken His church in our land.
